Tella Firma (formerly known as slab-tek) is an innovative foundation system often used in place of a structural slab in a less stable soil situation. Tella Firma is a lighter weight option, requiring approximately 30% less concrete, (always working on using less,) and eliminating the need for traditional carton forms.
One of the truly unique principals of this type of slab is that mechanisms are placed on the top of each pier that allow the slab to be raised off the ground to the desired height. Before pouring the concrete post-tensioned cables are draped up and down within the slab where reinforcement is needed most. Underground plumbing is also put in place.
Once the slab is poured and hard-troweled, (as we’ll have exposed concrete floors,) it takes approximately 7-10 days to cure. It rained the majority of our cure time, which is actually good thing in Texas, because it slows the curing process. Once cured, turning devices are attached to the mechanisms mounted on top of the piers. They are able to attach to them via slab leave outs that will later be filled in. The slab is then slowly raised by multiple workers slowly cranking the mechanisms by hand at the same time.
